Fresh Apple Cake

1 cup sugar1 cup flour1 tsp soda1/4 tsp. nutmeg1/4 tsp. salt1/4 tsp. cinnamon1 tsp. vanilla4 medium apples peeled & chopped or thinly sliced1 egg1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Mix flour, sugar and spices. Add rest of ingredients and mix well. Spoon into a greased and floured 9"x13" pan. Bake about 35 minutes until nicely browned. May be served with a dollop of light cool whip.
