1 cup Basmati Rice, rinsed8 cups water1 tbsp sunflower oil5 medium onions, chopped1 large tomato, thinly sliced1 tbsp curry powder (or garam masala)1 tsp ground turmeric1 glove garlic, halved2 tbsp chopped cilantro (coriander)1 tbsp tomato paste2 tsp salt
Rinse rice and add to boiling water in a harees pot or pressure cooker. Bring to a boil and boil until rice is soft.
In a saucepan, cook onion in oil until golden, use water to keep from sticking. Add sliced tomato and cook down until it is like a sauce, add a little water if neccessary.
Add curry powder and turmeric, stir.
Add sauce to rice and add garlic, cilantro, and tomato paste. Cover and cook on low heat until it is like porridge. This will take about an hour. Check to make sure it doesn't stick on the bottom.
Stir well (beat against the side of the pot to make it smooth).
Add salt to taste.
