I just wanted to add that I've made this 'dump cake' & used Angel Food Cake Mix, instead of a regulard cake mix, and it saves a few calories & fat grams! - 7/10/13

This is such a great lower calorie version of a cobbler! To those who have not made this, make sure you do NOT stir the mixture. If you stir, you get cake. You get cobbler only if you don't stir! :-) nummy nummy nummy - 4/9/13

I cut the calories from 217 to 150 using sugar-free cake mix. Since I live alone and wasn't sure about the "freeze-ablity", I halved the recipe. It worked just fine and I'll let you know how well it freezes! - 7/10/13

    Wow.. I was impressed!
I've made many cobblers over the years, but this was the easiest one ever!
I too used Angel Food instead of regular cake, and it was awesome.
One suggestion... make sure ALL the dry cake mix is moistened with soda before baking.
    Thanks for the recipe!

This is really incredible. I have made this twice now - once with frozen blueberries, once with frozen strawberries. Both times it was amazing! RIch and decadent-my boys LOVE it! DO NOT STIR the mix - you get a crumbly topping. Will definitely make again!! - 5/29/13

Is cooking with "diet" soda a good idea? Some artificial sweeteners can cause health issues when heated. - 7/10/13

Loved how easy it was. Dislike the artificial soda...will use regular soda next time. Yes there will be a next time at our church potluck. I figure the amount of calories from the regular soda spread over 12 servings won't be too many calories. - 7/14/13

The ghost of my grandmother will haunt me for even reading this recipe. This isn't cobbler. (Why does Weight Watchers come up with this weird non-food for people to eat?) - 3/23/15

I loved this easy bake dessert, super simple as well. The only thing I had to do was add another half can of soda. I used regular lemon-lime soda. My boyfriend just tasted the cobbler and he loved it. - 7/11/13

This was so good! For the person wanting to use coconut water; it won't work. You need the acid and the carbonation from the citrus soda. They react with the baking soda in the mix. This was a somewhat healthy dessert that my four children asked me to make again! - 7/10/13

I made this using frozen strawberries and chocolate cake mix, but when it was all baked, some of the cake mix on the top was still powder, and the mix that sunk down into the berries was thick and not cooked, gooey. I don't know if it was just the whole frozen strawberries that made it like that. - 6/8/14

I've tried a few different combos with this recipe. My favorite is using blackberries, blueberries and cherries topped with lemon cake mix. Delish! I also use regular soda not diet because of the health concerns with heating diet soda. Enjoy!

I made this this afternoon and used an Angel Food cake mix and it turned out so yummy. I used more berries and it was a perfect amt. of sugar. Not too much and not too little either! Thanks for sharing! - 8/22/15

I used 4 cups of blueberries, a box of Pillsbury Sugar Free yellow cake mix, and 20 oz of Sprite Zero and the result was phenomenal. Mine yielded about 10 cups which the recipe analyzer tells me make it about 175 calories per cup. Loved it! - 6/14/14

I made this for our family picnic. I made 2 of them one with white mix (didn't care to much for) yellow cake mix was so much better. I saw the difference when I put the soda over it but I used a little more soda than what was asked for and it turn out great for both. - 7/29/13

As someone who rarely uses box anything I liked this. I found a box mix with no hydrogenated oils etc (Immaculate Brand) and Polar sparking flavored water( has no added sugars etc.) This turned out great. I did need use a bit more sparkling water to cover the dry mix. So easy and good. - 8/19/16

I've made this one other time & we loved it, but it had been awhile. This time I used one can of diet lemon lime soda, organic mixed fruit, & a box of angel food cake. I found that the soda didn't cover thoroughly, so I will maybe use a can & a 1/2 next time. Or use the club soda as a choice too! - 1/26/16

This sounds repulsive and so unhealthy! Can you honestly say that taking fresh fruit, a little maple syrup and a lightened up recipe for a topping is a worse option than this? I've just joined the site and seeing something like this is very discouraging. - 8/22/15

Is there a healthier alternative to the soda? Like possibly, could lemon/lime seltzer water work? or is there another alternative liquid all together? Thanks for the answer in advance guys. :) - 6/27/15

I tried to make this. I followed the directions and it didn't turn out well. It was super sweet and powdery yet super sticky in places. I don't know what went wrong seeing since a lot of people has success with this. I found it to be a waste of fruit! - 9/2/13
