This is scrumptious!!! I made a couple of modifications - added an additional 1/2 cup of barley (which made it more stew than soup-like), threw in some leftover peas and carrots, omitted the green beans, used a 14.5 oz. can of diced tomatoes (that was all I had) and used beef stock. A keeper!!! - 11/14/09

This was probably the best beef based soup I have ever made. LOVE it and so did the kids - 1/4/14

Yes, this is a great recipe. I also substituted turnip for the potatoes, and added mushrooms, and tomato paste. I also doubled up the Worcestershire sauce. Loved it. - 11/4/09

Had this for dinner last night and it was wonderful. It makes plenty so there are leftovers for today. Will make again. - 1/13/09

Delicious! My husband said it was the best soup I ever made (and I'm not known for my cooking:) I was out of canned tomatoes, but a small can of paste worked fine. - 1/11/09

Delicious--needed a little more piquantness for me so I added a small can of tomato paste and one more Tbsp of Worchestershire sauce. It just got better the next day--hubby loved it. - 11/25/08

I thought this was really good. I left out the potatoes and the green beans-didn't have any in the house. But will be making this again. - 11/2/08

It was wonderful. Great the next day for leftovers, too. I love that it is so filling for so few calories. I used turnips instead of potatoes, also. - 4/4/08

I make a soup almost identical to this one and it is delicious! I plan on making this recipe soon, sounds yummy! I like the idea of substituting the turnips for potatoes, nice. - 12/31/07

This is a great recipe. I substituted a cubed turnip for the potatoes - even people who think they don't like turnips like them in soup. They look just like potatoes but add a nice flavor with less calories. - 11/24/07
