This is a great simple recipe for dal, but be warned the cals are off because the database is for a cup of cooked lentils, so 1 cup dried = 2-3cups cooked. - 5/26/12

I redid the nutrition using dried lentils and it's 117.3 cals, 3.1g fat, carbs 22.4g, fiber 11.5g, and protien 10.4g
Also, added hot curry powder and served with Naan and rice (with peas)

This is AWESOME! I omitted the oil and sauteed the onions, spices etc..with spray and put that and all the rest in the slow cooker, using bouillon instead of plain water, for a couple of hours on high...Sooo easy and DELICIOUS! A New FAVE! - 5/17/12

good recipe! You can speed things up a bit and skip soaking the lentils and instead cook in the pressure cooker (cook until blast, then turn heat off and allow to set until steam is gone). Mean while cook the cumin seed and add onions and garlic.

Awesome recipe. I made it for my family and they ate all of it (no left overs). I did double the spices and worried it would be too spicy for me (Not a fan of hot food), but it was not and loved it! - 2/3/14

I made this tonight finally, served with quinoa, a salad & lots of veggies. I liked the recipe as is, but, my bf wanted it hotter so i added some curry powder & hot sauce, he was happy. I think this can be tweaked for many tasted, I also think I will be making this a lot :) - 7/18/12

This recipe fell flat and I like lentils and Curry and other (mild) Indian cuisine. It lacks a balance of subtle sweetness and ended up tasting like musty cupboard and old split pea soup - 11/30/09

I used split dried chickpeas and added chilli. Served with brown rice, cucumber raita, tomatoes and papadums. Fantastic! - 5/31/09

Could you please add how much is in each serving? Is a serving 1/2 cup of lentils, or more like 3/4 cup?
I made a much bigger pot, using this recipe loosely, and so can't just divide into 4.
I added garam marsala and hot curry powder...yum!
