Introduction

These tacos are incredible; sweet, slightly spicy and flavorful! These tacos are incredible; sweet, slightly spicy and flavorful!
Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    1 tsp. vegetable oil
1 large onion, sliced into strips
2 bell peppers, sliced into strips
    3-4 cloves garlic, chopped
1 jalapeno (remove seeds if you don't like it hot.)
1 1/2 lb. precooked cocktail shrimp, tails removed
    4 tbsp. honey
    3 tbsp. fresh cilantro, chopped
    2 tsp. coriander
    2 tsp. cumin
    salt and pepper to taste
    8 tortillas, soft taco size

Directions

Warm oil in skillet over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, bell peppers, and jalapeno. Cook until onions are transparent, about 5-10 minutes. Add shrimp and cook only until warmed through. (The longer they cook, the more they lose water and shrink.)

If you see a lot of water at the bottom of the pan after cooking the shrimp, drain mixture in a colander, return to skillet and stove. Lower the temperature of the stovetop to low. Add cumin and coriander, salt and pepper to taste.

In a small bowl, combine honey and chopped cilantro. Place shrimp mixture in tortilla and top with a spoonful of the honey mixture. You can top with salsa or sour cream if you wish. Enjoy!

*Note: these tacos can be pretty messy, so you may prefer to eat them with a fork and knife

We really enjoyed these. I used one large flatout multi grain with flax flatbread (100 calories) for each of us. It really cut down of the calories. 345 total for each of us. - 12/24/09

Very good, but messy. I'm going to make these for a 3rd time this week as a salad instead of tacos. - 2/28/10

I forgot the garlic but I stil loved it. The kids were afraid of the honey/cilantro sauce. Thought it looked gross. I don't care how it looks; it tastes great. Will make it again. - 1/27/09

I cooked this for my family of 6. Everone loved it. I added the honey to the shrimp mixture and it made it soft and yummy and evenly coated among the mixture. - 6/24/10

I actually doubled the honey sauce when I made this (my husband to drench things in sauce). Was totally unneeded. We barely used half, and even then it felt like it was a bit much. The honey sauce goes a long way. It was great though, we really liked it! - 3/19/08

These were surprisingly good! I ignored the coriander, added some lime juice, and mixed it all together in the skillet (instead of using the honey/cilantro as a separate sauce.) The hubby was highly impressed :D - 4/11/13

I have never written a review about a recipe I have found online and have made. But this recipe got me to create a account just to inform you on how bad this recipe is, this has got to be the worst thing I have ever made. For all those rating this 5 star, what have you been eating? this is AWFUL. - 6/4/11

Delicious. I used Mission Carb Balance Whole Wheat Tortillas (taco size) instead of regular white tortillas. You get more fiber and less calories. - 3/23/11

Generally liked it, but may skip the honey sauce next time and just stick to some salsa instead. Question - calls for 8 tortillas but makes 4 servings, so is one serving 2 tacos?? - 3/9/11

This was AMAZING!! A great contrast between spicy and sweet. I did only use 1/4 of the jalapeno pepper because I was nervous and it was still had a kick. I also only used about 1/2 the honey and just added it right on top of the veggies and shrimp and threw in the cilantro too. So YUMMY!! - 2/22/11

Very tasty! I used corn tortillas instead of flour which knocked about 100 calories off of the total. This would be really good on top of mixed greens for even fewer calories. YUM! - 7/2/10

Really good. I used crawfish since that's what I had on hand and used red bell peppers instead of green. Next time will half the honey sauce and add lime juice to cut sweetness - a bit TOO sweet for me. And will DEFINITELY eat over rice - tacos were very very messy!!! But yummy! - 5/20/10

my 12 year old daughter made this. It was easy and had a real interested flavor. I would give the tortilla the heave ho and add this on top of a salad or brown rice as better alternative. - 4/12/10

I wasn't sure about the honey/cilantro mixture on the shrimp/veggies...but it was WONDERFUL! My husband and I both learned we don't like coriander, though. Next time will leave that out. - 1/27/10

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was how hard it was to eat as a taco. The taste is phenomenal! DH suggested doing the shrimp warm and all of it over rice or as is in a salad, with the tortillas on the side! Will make again, but not as tacos per se!!! - 3/6/09

If you read the category, it says vegetarian and seafood. That is why it is in this section.
