Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

    1 cup all-purpose flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt (I use sea salt)
    1 teaspoon butter, melted
    1 teaspoon sugar
    1 cup milk
    1 egg, seperated

Directions

Beat egg white in a small bowl until stiff. Set aside. Sift dry ingredients together in a medium bowl. Add egg yolk, milk and butter to the dry ingredients and beat together thoroughly. Fold in egg whites. Do not over mix. Pour 1/3-1/2 cup batter onto hot waffle iron. Cooking time and amount of batter will differ depending on the size of your waffle iron. Ours makes 2 small waffles at a time. This recipe makes 8 waffles in our maker.

Everyone in my family loved this recipe, I served it with the 'Oven Fried Apples' recipe. It was very good! Will definitely make it again. Thanks for sharing! :o) - 9/29/10

    Very Good

I would recommend beating the egg right before adding. My "set aside" time was too long and the white was a bit too foamy. Otherwise, loved the recipe and will try it again. - 7/19/08

I used whole wheat flour, vanilla almond milk, only a pinch of salt, and an extra 1/2 tsp of sugar, and 1/4 tsp of cinnamon. I got 5 waffles, they took about 12 mins to cook through. They were SCRUMPTIOUS! I'm going to make multiple batches and freeze them for toaster waffles. - 11/7/10

    Good
    It is good,...but
It is what it claims -- a crisp, traditional waffle. If I got it at a restaurant I'd be pleased! But in my waffle maker the recipe made two waffles. My waffle maker is a basic flip model and makes a 'Belgian waffle' about the size you'd get out to eat. It is a good waffle!
