Introduction

An easy and light alternative to traditional cabbage rolls. An easy and light alternative to traditional cabbage rolls.
Number of Servings: 12

Ingredients

1 med head of cabbage, chopped
1 lb extra lean ground turkey
    1 onion, chopped
    24 oz tomato sauce
    3 cups chicken broth
1 cup uncooked long grain brown rice.
Seasonings of your choice (I used paprika, hot sauce, worchestershire, salt and pepper)
(optional - top with grated cheddar cheese)

Directions

Sautee ground turkey with onions and seasonings in a non-stick pan. Chop cabbage. Combine with cooked turkey mixture, tomato sauce and stock. Turn into a casserole dish (I usually need to use 2 dishes - this makes a ton). Bake at 350 degrees for around an hour (up to an hour and a half) Stir part way through cooking. Top with grated sharp cheddar cheese.

I used diced tomatoes instead of tomato sauce and water instead of broth, simply because it's all I had on hand and it's still very flavourful! - 1/3/11

Used diced fresh tomatoes, no additional water or broth needed. Added rosemary, thyme & sage. Softened cabbage in microwave first, and cooked the toppings for about 10 minutes first to reduce the oven time needed. Simply layered the meat over the cabbage. Yummy! - 9/28/11

This recipe was really good. The only reason I rated it a four was because I wish there were measurements for the seasonings. But, I figured. - 1/31/10

Ugh. Forgot to put that in and I have no idea how to edit the recipe.... you mix it in with the sauce, stock and turkey mixture before baking. Sorry about that!
