I've made this peanut butter once in awhile (when we can't find any to buy) for several yrs. To be honest, you don't need to add any oil, there's plenty in the peanuts! - 11/30/08

I have been making nut butter a long time - add flax seed oil for omega-3's; chopped nuts for crunchy style; use different nuts for some great flavors - almond butter, yum! - 11/30/07

Since SP members have different needs and can have the extra salt or oil then go for it.It makes a creamier tastier butter. The one thing I really liked was adding flax oil for the omegas 3 oil, great idea.
I use skin on spanish nuts and run them through my Champion juicer...Chef Jim.

Natural peanutbutter is the way to go. I eat a tablespoon every morning for a healthy dose of fats (necessary for good health), protein and vitamins. One tablespoon (1/2 of a serving) is actually a lot pb to put on toast or apples and is around 100 calories. - 4/2/09

I make peanut butter in my Vitamix (that's how I learned to do it) all the time and only buy from the store if I need it for a recipe. The fun is in the customization, and knowing there is NOTHING unhealthy added. I don't even add the extra oil. - 11/30/07

I bet you could use Almonds and Almond oil to make Almond butter
    And
Cashews and Almond oild to make cashew butter

OMG! You have just created a nut butter monster!
    Thanks for the wonderful idea!
Store bought peanut butter has nasty hydrogenated oil in it.
    This is much healthier!

Too oily for me but the taste was good. I did some research: You can reduce the fat by making nut milk, squeezing meats dry, process with only as much nut milk as required for desired texture. Most of the oil/fats from the nuts is in the milk. Use remaining milk for lactose free baking. - 4/2/09

Peanuts are NOT bad for you, they are however not the best nuts. Notice peanut oil is what they used, again not bad oil. You may substitute olive oil or not use any oil at all. I too would leave out the salt but some people cant do without it maybe a compromise use only 1/2 the salt - 4/2/09

I'm definitely trying this one! And as for the comments about it being too high in calories, look at your peanut butter jar! They only count 1 Tablespoon, this one counts 2 as a serving. It's barely any more calories or fat than the jar, and far less sugar! More protein than carbs makes it worth it - 7/17/09

For those worried about fat content, leave your pb sit out for a few weeks, pour off the oil that rises to the top. this will give you a VERY firm pb but less oil. If you mash in some yogurt or fat low fat magarine you'd have a spread with lower fat. store in fridge. HTH - 4/27/10

Actually if you care to take the time salted in the shell peanuts can be used without any added oil. Shell them, skin them and blend them, result peanut butter. Simple but a bit messy taste A test you can do is to shell and skin the peanuts then mash some with the back of a spoon and taste. - 2/15/10

This is a great alternative to purchasing - reduced fat commercial peanut butter - which reduces the fat by adding high frutose corn syrup which is worse for you than a little health fat - just don't add any additional oil or sweetner. - 5/12/09

I buy fresh peanut butter from my grocery store. They tell me that they do not add anything extra to it. One good thing the fat is healthier than what comes in a jar as the good oil is taken out and something else is put in. I didn't realize it could be done in the blender. I am going to try this. - 11/26/09

Tabbysmom, Despite their high fat content, peanuts may be healthy again thanks to their high concentrations of antioxidants... Carries fat soluble vitamins such as A, D and E and helps maintain healthy skin. So, I think I will be making this recipe.
