It makes great rolls too! Let rise once in machine, Divide dough into 12 pieces, roll into balls and let rise on cookie sheets. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with salt and garlic powder, bake for 15 minutes at 350 Makes a great sandwich bun. - 1/29/10

The flavor, light texture and thin crust of this bread is awesome!! I accidentally overlooked the first two sentences and didn't pre-mix. I just put the water, sugar, egg, salt, and oil in the machine and then put the flour and yeast on top. I did stop the machine and start over as instructed. - 7/18/09

I made this using my kitchenaid mixer and letting it rise normally. I did allow 3 rise sessions before baking @ 350degrees for @ 30 minutes. I also added 4 tsps of vital wheat gluten and sifted the flour first before mixing up the dough.
It came out marvelous! My kids love it! Thanks for sharin

18 tablespoons is NOT 6 ounces, it is 9 ounces (1 cup + 2 tablesppons). A tablespoon is half an ounce, two tablespoons is an ounce, and 16 tablespoons is a cup (8 ounces). - 11/26/17

What a pleasant surprise!! Light, fluffy whole wheat bread!
I doubted the recipe (as did many people), but adding that extra cycle by turning the machine off made an amazing difference.
Thank you so much for posting it, I make this all the time
    now. For those who don't know, 18TBL = 1 cup + 2T

18 Tbsp=9 oz. I added 4 tsp vital wheat gluten, used 1 tsp salt, substituted light brown sugar & coconut oil (canola is GMO) & added 2 scoops chia seeds for extra nutrition (Omega 3's & fiber). - 3/11/13

So good! After reading the comments below, I increased the salt to 1 teaspoon.

Also, I'm vegan, so I substituted the egg with a flax and water mixture. The bread was moist, light, and the crust was great! Even after a few days in the fridge, it was still delicious!

    Very Good
I was skeptical with the instructions like others, but am glad to be proven wrong! This bread is wonderful! The only things I changed was to add 3 tsp of vital wheat gluten (habit, I add to all my bread machine recipes) and increased to 1 tsp of salt. Very soft, light, wheat bread. Delicious!! - 1/20/13

I am going to make this bread but I am wondering if there are directions for just just using the bread machine to make the dough and then using the oven to bake the bread. I don't like to bake the bread in the machine. How long to cook in the oven and what temp? Anybody try this? - 4/24/12

This was so light and fluffy! It is perfect!

If you are having problems with the top collapsing - add 1/2 tsp more salt. Salt helps stabilize the yeast.

Great tasting bread!! I have made this several times. Every time I make it, the top collapses. I have made it with an envelope of active yeast and then with bread machine yeast. I have tried it mixing the yeast as directed and then tried putting the yeast on top of the flour as my machine directs - 7/23/10

I was so excited to make this bread, and then my bread machine died (of old age) 10 minutes in! I rescued the dough and finished making it by hand, and it was absolutely wonderful! Great texture and flavor. I'll definitely make it again. - 1/16/10

I have made this bread several times. My husband loved it so much that he actually wrote the recipe on the bread machine with a sharpie! Best wheat bread in a bread machine we have ever had. Not dense and hard just fluffy and the tast is great! - 6/29/09

I'm making this "as I speak." This is my 3rd loaf of any bread with a machine (or oven as far as that's concerned...I don't bake! :) ). What weight should the machine be on? I put it on 2 lbs.

I'm anxious to see how it comes out!

AH HA!!!! After several failed attempts to make whole wheat bread in my bread maker, this may be the answer. Looking forward to giving it a try!! - 9/7/08

Sounds good! I will have to try it. I looked up the 18 tsp. thing and it translates into 1/4 cup and 2 TBL. There are 48 tsp. in 1 cup. If there is a better answer, go ahead and add it. I just couldn't imagine sitting under the faucet for 18 tsps. - 9/5/08

arghhh I am so sorry. I was typing off the top of my head and have no idea why I typed in teaspoons when I meant tablespoons. It actually is a little over 1 cup of water. I am so sorry. Now it is correct.
