Introduction

A sweet way to start any morning. Top with your favorite seasonal fruit! A sweet way to start any morning. Top with your favorite seasonal fruit!
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

    1 c. whole wheat flour
    1 Tblsp. sugar
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 beaten egg
    1 cup milk
    1 Tblsp. Applesauce
    1 Tblsp. Veg. oil
    1 tsp. ground cinnamon

Directions

In a bowl (we like the kind with a spout) beat the egg, add the milk, applesauce(if you use sweetened applesauce you can lower the amount of sugar that the recipe calls for, also you can substitute all applesauce for the oil, but they tend to stick to the pan more if you do) and oil. Then add all the dry ingredients. Stir with a wire wisk, it will be slightly lumpy. Heat a saucepan or electric griddle. Lightly grease surface. Cook on each side until golden brown. It will make 8 3-4 in pancakes. My kids like one plate size pancake instead of a couple of small ones. So we double the recipe and get 8 plate size pancakes out of it.

These are delicious! I added 1 tbsp. cinnamon instead of 1 tsp and also chopped up an apple and added it to the mix. My first experience cooking with whole wheat flour was very tasty! - 2/1/09

These are so yummy!! My husband and kids even liked them. I made them as the directions said but I added diced apple to them and served them with a tablespoon of organic apple butter at an extra 45 calories and they were out of this world!!! - 7/11/12

These are great. I halved the recipe. I used splenda instead of sugar and used all applesauce and no oil. The calorie count was at about 72 for each pancake and I ate all 4! Not too bad calorie-wise. So filling and so good! - 2/19/12

I loved these when I beat the egg whites until fluffy and older them into the batter to lighten it. I also grated in an apple. Leftover pancakes I used for raspberry and peanut butter sandwiches, yummy! - 6/9/11

These were tastey, directions were simple and easy to make. I made them yesterday, ate some this morning and froze the rest for future breakfast. And it made exactly 8 pancakes! I was thinking that next time I may add a few raisins. YUM! - 1/6/09

Amazing! I generally do not like pancakes but these ones are great. For extra flavour and health, I add ground flaxseed and fresh blueberries (in the summer months only...). This is a recipe worth sharing! - 11/14/08
