Ingredients

    1lb Firm Tofu
    1cup plain white flour*
    1t cayenne*
    1T Salt*

*Only two tablespoons of flour mixture is counted in the nutritional information. This is the average amount that actually sticks to the tofu. You still need to use more flour to keep it from clumping. To cut down on waste, you can freeze the remaining flour mixture and re-use a few times.

Directions

Preheat oven to 400F.

Defrost tofu in the microwave. Get as much water out as possible. Some people squeeze then slice. Some vice versa. I've also heard of putting slice between plates and pressing.

Slice into four cards, then each card into 5 fries/sticks.

Combine dry ingredients in a baggie or plastic storage ware. Gently shake tofu in this until covered.

Bake for about 25min depending on how crispy you want. Turn them over somewhere in the middle.

Have done both flour and sesame seeds and LOVE this!! I've made it at least 5 times now. So stinkin easy! THANK YOU! I use it as my croutons on a salad! - 2/7/11

Tofu croutons! I like that! I tend to eat too many carbs and not enough protein so I try to sneak in or sub protein for carbs when possible. Croutons were one of the first refined carbs to go. :(

My tofu crumbled - perhaps I didn't drain it thoroughly enough. Like the flavor, though. Will use bread crumbs or sesame seeds next time, and recalculate for smaller serving size. - 4/4/10

Tonight I tried this recipe for the first time....I used extra firm Tofu and drained it well....I used Italian spiced bread crumbs and sprayed the pan with 0 cal. non-stick coating..Next time I won't use the cayenne pepper as that made it a little to hot for my taste...other than that I liked them. - 8/30/09

Thanks for the great idea! I used sesame seeds according to some other reviews, plus garlic, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and paprika. Slightly smaller tofu pieces, pressed between paper towels, and shaken in a little plastic bag worked great - stayed intact. - 10/18/10

Pretty good. A little too much flour for my taste. I think I might try it coated in sesame seeds next time. My kids loved them though and helped me shake them in the bag :) - 8/11/09

I used brown rice flour (since it's all I had) and had to lightly sauté them since my oven isn't working! I love these!!!! I also added garlic salt. I'm addicted! - 10/17/14

I tried this once (different recipe) and it just called for the italian bread crumbs and olive oil..... I found they were better when I dipped them in soy sauce (or Braggs) and then coated.....it gave the inside more flavor. - 8/7/13

Thank you for giving me another nutritional way to serve my tofu for dinner or lunch. I greatly appreciate as I'd like to zing up my food without adding sugar and salt-laiden sauces. Shoonya - 3/15/11

i changed this recipe up as well after reading the comments and used seasoned bread crumbs and then served them with hot sauce and other dippers. I still found them a little bland although I LOVED the texture. Wonderful idea. Thanks! - 1/22/11

OMG remember to grease the pan *headdesk*

    V. good. Added in some paprika for kicks. Probably best to press the tofu after cut into strips.

Definitely too doughy ... I would use the suggestion of sesame seeds, not flour. - 9/2/09

I loved the texture the most, though they were a little bland. I Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, sprinkle with cumin or mix it with sauteed veggies. Delish! - 7/21/09
