Indian Potato and Peas Indian Potato and Peas

    3 large potatoes- boiled and diced or cut into half moons
    2 onions- sliced
    1 jalapeno pepper- minced
    1 tbsp salt
    1 cup frozen peas
    1 tbsp canola oil
    1 tsp turmeric
    1-2 tsp cumin
    4 tbsp cilantro


Heat cumin in dry pan over medium heat until you can smell it.
Turn heat up to medium-high, add onions and canola, sautee until browned.
Add jalapeno and cook for a minute. Add frozen peas. Once they turn vibrant green, add in the potatoes, turmeric, and salt. Stir to combine, and cook until peas are as soft as you'd like them. Stir in cilantro, and serve!

If you have it, you may also want to add a tsp of chaat masala (MDH is the best brand, imho).

If they are too dry for your taste, feel free to add water (slowly!) until they're the consistency you'd like.

  • This recipe has problems such as a lack of cooking temperatures and cumin not being on the ingredient list (though you should have on hand if cooking Indian food). Also, I think that it may be missing something, maybe yogurt? This was not as expected. It was like dry mashed potatoes with spices. - 8/28/07

    You can add water if it's too dry for your taste. This is just how I like them :)
