    2 cups flour
    1/4 teaspoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon salt
    4 Tablespoons shortening
    1 cup warm water
    have a little extra flour on hand for dusting during kneading and rolling process.


In bowl, mix 1st three ingredients. Add shortening and mix until mixture is crumbly. Add warm water a little at a time moistening all flour, forming the dough. Turn out onto your flour dusted work surface and knead dough a few times. Divide dough into 16 small balls. Dust your rolling pin and roll dough ball into tortilla. Cook on griddle or non-stick pan (preheated medium to medium high). Cook your tortilla until you see brown spots and turn and cook on the other side. Stack your tortillas in a cloth lined basket or bowl keeping them covered until all tortillas are cooked.

  • These were good and easy and passed the blech test by my picky kids and husband. I did have trouble getting 16 out of the batch. I think I got about 10. I used butter instead of shortening. - 5/7/12
