This is an amazing "lazy man's lasgana" that is easy to make and GREAT to eat! This is an amazing "lazy man's lasgana" that is easy to make and GREAT to eat!
Number of Servings: 8

2-lb. lean ground beef, turkey or bison
(1 tbsp. if you are using turkey - adds a meatier flavor)
    2 medium onions, chopped fine
    4-5 cloves of garlic crushed
1 14 oz. jar spaghetti sauce (Ragu original)
1 1 lb. can stewed tomatoes
(OPTIONAL - 1/2 cup of good red heavy wine)
1 4 oz. jar of sliced mushrooms
1 1 lb. box of medium shell macaroni
    1 pts. sour cream
    lb. sliced provolone
    lb. sliced mozzarella

Makes 8 servings (if people are REALLY hungry - more servings for average appetites/servings)

Brown beef and drain well.
If you are using turkey, you may want to add 1 tbsp. of Worcestershire Sauce for meatiness.
Add onions, garlic, spaghetti sauce, tomatoes and undrained mushrooms. (You may add a splash of a good red wine if you wish.)
Simmer 20 minutes.
Cook shell according to package directions, drain and rinse in cold water.

In a 4 qt. Casserole, pour of the shells.
Cover with the tomato sauce.
Spread with the sour cream.
Top with provolone.
Now pour in the remaining shells.
Cover with the remaining tomato sauce.
Spread with the remaining sour cream.
Top with mozzarella.

Preheat the oven to 350 and bake for 35-40 minutes covered.
Remove cover and bake until mozzarella melts and browns slightly.
Remove from oven and allow to stand for 10 minutes before serving.

This is very rich so it is suggested that you simply serve with a crisp green salad, garlic bread and beverage.

NOTE - The casserole can be prepared ahead and then refrigerated for up to 24 hours BUT, due to its density, you should bring it to room temperature before baking to assure that it heats through completely. You can also allow it sit at room temperature for 1-2 hours immediately following assembly and before baking.

Number of Servings: 8
