This is by far the BEST low fat recipe!! :) This is by far the BEST low fat recipe!! :)
Number of Servings: 16

1 package of Duncan Hines Classic White Cake (using the low fat recipe on back of box)
    3 egg whites
    1 tbsp of applesauce
1.5 cups of water (see cake package for this amt)

2 packets of jello (I use regular not sugar free)
    2 cups of boiling water

1 container of fat free cool whip

This recipe is amazing, it turns a normal cake into something with TONS of flavor and very little fat!!

Pre-Heat Oven to 325 degrees.

** Sart as though you were making a Duncan Hines Classic White Cake Mix. However, on the back of the box it gives you specific directions on how to make it low fat - instead of oil you substitute in 1 tbsp of applesauce, use 3 egg whites and I believe it is 1.5 cups of water, but again this will all be written on the back of the box for the "low fat option".

** After you bake the cake as directed, you take it out of the oven and let the cake sit on the counter top to cool down (about 20 mins).

** While it is cooling down you can start the jello.
Boil 2 cups of water and combine 2 packets of jello, stir for about 3 minutes.

** Using a fork, start poking several holes all over the cake. (1 usually poke LOTS of holes down a line and do about 5 lines across)

** Then pour the hot jello liquid all over the cake.

** Stick the cake in the refrigerator for at least 5-8 hours (I usually just leave it in over night) and then take the cake out and "frost" it with a container of fat free cool whip (you can add strawberries on top for an extra touch)

****This cake will knock the socks off anyone who eats it - Guaranteed!!! :)

  • Sounds good! I'm going to try this one for my son's birthday, but I may use chocolate whipped cream since he wants a strawberry cake with chocolate icing! His party is this weekend, so I'll post letting you all know how it turned out! Thanks so much! - 2/4/08
