Introduction

On a mission to lose weight or just eat more healthy but you don't want to give up the craving for chocolate chip cookies? This recipe is just the ticket. As a side note, if you are not familiar with whole wheat recipes, the texture is a little different. The cookie almost has a bread like quality, kind of like a muffin. But still oh so good! Try adding pecans, raisins, or cranberries. You can also substitute oats for a portion of the flour. Ingredients

    1 egg
    1 cup applesauce
    1/2 cup sugar
    3/4 cup brown sugar
    2 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
    1 rounded tsp baking soda
    1/2 tsp salt
2 cups chocolate chips (about (1) 12 oz bag)
pecans, walnuts, raisins, cranberries, coffee beans are optional.
may substitute oatmeal for a portion of the flour.

Directions

Cream together the egg, applesauce, sugars, and vanilla. Then blend in the baking soda, salt, and flour. Add chocolate chips and any other extras (nuts, berries, etc).

Drop on un-greased cookie sheet a little bigger than silver dollar size. These cookies do not spread out when cooking so they can be placed a little closer together on the pan.

Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees F for 8-10 min. Test cookie by tapping the top. They should not indent but they should not be firm. They will not brown like regular cookies.

Remove from oven and place on paper to cool. Makes approximately 3 dozen cookies.

(Compare nutritional value to a regular cookie. A much healthier recipe!)
