    4 cups chicken broth (low sodium)
    1 cup mixed beans (Dry weight)
    14 oz can garbanzo (rinsed)
    .5 cup pearled barley
    1 cup chopped cabbage,
    3-4 carrots.sliced
    1 parsnip sliced
    1-2 stalks of celery ,chopped
    1 cup strained tomato (no sodium)
    5 garlic cloves
    1 large onion diced
    salt to your own taste ( None added to recipe)
    1 Tsp oregano
    1 Tsp paprika
    1 tsp blak ground pepper
    .5 Tbsp Italian spice mix.
    1-2 bayleaf
    4-5 crushed juniper berries (optional)
    9 oz sirloin cut into cubes or ground
    9 oz pork (Lean) cut into cubes.
    1 Jalopeno pepper (optional) I like an xtra cick.


Serves 8
Soak beans overnight in water. rinse well.
Cube the meats and brown in frying pan for a few min.
In large pot , add the chicken broth , beans,spices and the browned meats,whisk out pan with water and add to the beans,add the barley let cook for about 45 min.
Add all the vegetables and the whole Jalopeno if you like,simmer until beans are fully cooked.
Add water or broth if needed.
