    Yellow Split Peas (1 16 oz package dry peas)
    1.5 tsp salt
    1 tsp turmeric
    8 cups water (add more or less, depending on thickness desired)
    8 cloves garlic, chopped (more or less, as desired)
    1 habanero or other hot pepper, chopped
    1 Tbs cumin seed
    4 Tbs olive oil


*Rinse peas, cover with ~1/2" of water & boil.
*Drain water/strain peas & return to pot, add the rest of the water.
*Add salt & turmeric
*cook for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, until texture is smooth. add water as needed.
*Heat oil in frying pan. Fry garlic, hot pepper, and cumin until mixture is dark brown, almost black.
*add garlic mixture to split peas
*cook ~1/2 hour more.

Serve with rice or naan as a main course, or with curry as a side.
