Rich, melt in your mouth, old fashioned cake! Rich, melt in your mouth, old fashioned cake!
Number of Servings: 150


    Granulated Sugar, 2 cups
    *Flour, white, 2 cups
    Butter, salted, 1 stick
    *Crisco Pure Vegetable Oil, 1 cup
    Water, tap, 1 cup
    Cocoa, dry powder, unsweetened, .25 cup
    Buttermilk, lowfat, .5 cup
    Egg, fresh, 2 large
    Baking Soda, 1 tsp
    Cinnamon, ground, 1 tsp
    Vanilla Extract, 1 tsp

    Butter, .5 cup
    Cocoa, dry powder, unsweetened, .25 cup
    Milk, nonfat, 1/3 cup
    Powdered Sugar, 2 cup, unsifted
    Pecans, 1 cup, chopped
    Vanilla Extract, 1 tsp


Mix and set aside sugar and flour. In a 2 quart saucepan, mix butter, oil, water, and cocoa. Use a wire whip to stir and blend over low heat until mixture boils. Remove from heat and pour mixture over sugar and flour combination. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda, cinnamon, and vanilla. Pour in 10" x 15" greased and floured jelly roll pan (usually about 1-2 inches deep). Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Let cool.
For icing, mix butter, cocoa, milk, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Blend till smooth. Add chopped pecans (optional). Frosting will set to a smooth finish. Cut cake into 1" squares. It is very rich and oh so delicious!
Freezes well.
A 10" x 15" pan cuts into approximately 150 squares.
