This was an excellent recipe, but the macros are wrong. A 1lb bag of dried split peas has 273 grams of carbs and 117 grams of protein, divided into 8 servings would be 34g of carbs and 14.8 grams of protein... mind you this is without adding the ham and other veggies which drives it up quite a bit. - 11/11/10

At least my boyfriend thinks its incredible - almost as good as his mom's. I added minced garlic and used vegetable broth instead of water for a little more flavor. We soaked the peas overnight before cooking and added a little cornstarch to thicken it up. Next time I won't use 8 cups of broth. - 1/23/11

I have to admit, this is probably the best split pea soup I have EVER had. I will never ever ever eat this soup from a can again!!!!!! I did make a couple changes. I used 4 cups of chicken broth, 3 cups ham, 2 cups carrots, and omitted seasoning. Hard to not eat the whole pot in one sitting! - 1/13/13

Basically the same recipe I've used for years. I do add Thyme, bay leaves and Marjoram to season. I also saute the
veggies to bring out the flavor. I used the bone from the Easter ham. Add salt after cooking, as the amount from the bone will vary widely. Go with 6 C. water if you like it thicker. - 5/4/11

So fast to prepare, only needs the odd stir during cooking. I made it exactly as listed, but with an Australian alternative to the listed seasoning blend and it was absolutely fantastic. Couldn't have been more tasty, and the texture was perfect. Very filling, and far better than my old recipe. YUM! - 10/20/10
