Introduction

This recipe comes from my hometown in Kentucky. Spoonbread should be served with a spoon, but eaten with a fork! This recipe comes from my hometown in Kentucky. Spoonbread should be served with a spoon, but eaten with a fork!
Number of Servings: 9

Ingredients

    2 c. milk
    3/4 c. white cornmeal
    3 eggs, separated
    1 T sugar
    1/2 t salt
    3 T margarine

Directions

1) Scald milk in pot over medium heat. Slowly stir in cormeal and cook until thick and bubbly.

2) Remove from heat. Stir in sugar, salt, and margarine. Let cool while beating the egg whites.

3) Add yolks first, then fold in beaten whites.

4) Pour into 9x9 Pyrex dish that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
Bake at 350 for 35 minutes.
Makes 9 square servings.
