    4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
    1-2 tbsp non-fat milk or soy milk
    1 large onion, diced
    2 medium carrots, diced
    1 cup frozen peas
    1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
    1 (12 oz) bag non-meat "burger" style crumbles
    1 tbsp soy sauce
    1 tsp garam masala (or substitute 1/2 tsp grated nutmeg & 1/2 tsp. ground mace)


Pre-heat oven to 400F.
Boil potatoes for about 20 minutes, or until soft.
While potatoes are boiling, heat olive oil over medium heat and add onion and carrot.
Cook until soft, about 10 minutes.
Add peas, kidney beans, vegetarian crumble, soy sauce and seasoning. Heat through.
Turn out into a large baking dish.
Drain and mash potatoes, adding milk to make a firm but smooth consistency.
Spread mashed potatoes over crumble mixture.
Bake, uncovered, about 30 minutes or until potato topping is browned.
If after 30 minutes topping is not browned, set to broil for a few minutes.

    I'm going to keep looking for another recipe for this dish. This was a bit on the bland side for me - 5/26/08
