Ingredients

    Syrup:
    1/4 C sugar
    1/4 C water

    Custard
    5 large eggs
    3/4 C sugar
    1/8 tsp salt
    3 C milk (whole or low fat)
    3/4 tsp vanilla

Directions

Preheat oven to 350
Place sugar in a small heavy sauce pan. Drizzle water over sugar. Place pan over medium heat. Swirl water and sugar til sugar dissolves and water is clear. Increase heat to high and bring to a rolling boil. Cover and boil 2 min. Uncover and cook syrup til it is a deep amber color. Pur into bottom of custard cups. Heat milk until steaming. Whisk until blended eggs, sugar, salt. Gradually whisk milk into egg mixture. Stir in vanilla. Pour into custard cups. Bake in a water bath for 40 to 60 minutes until set. Chill at least 4 hours.
