Ingredients

    *Potato, raw, 1 large, cut into 1/2 in. cubes
    Sweet potato, 1 large, cut into 1/2 in. cubes
    Carrots, raw, 2 medium, sliced
    Parsnips, 1 medium, sliced
    Onions, raw, 1 medium, chopped
    Smoked sausage, 16 oz, sliced
    Chicken Broth, 14.5 fl oz (low sodium)
    diced tomatoe italian herbs, 14.5 oz, undrained
    Granulated Sugar, 2 tsp
    Thyme, ground, .5 tsp
    Pepper, black, .25 tsp
    Parsley, .25 cup

Directions

In 3-1/2 to 4 qt crockpot, combine all ingredients except parsley; mix well. Cover, cook on low setting for 7-9 hrs. Just before serving, stir in parsley.

To decrease sodium content, I use a lower-sodium chicken broth (Better than Bouillon chicken base) and no-salt-added diced tomatoes; I then add dried Italian herbs & garlic powder.
