    1 cup flour
    1/4 tsp Baking Soda
    1/8 tsp salt
    1/3 cup splenda*
    4 Tbs unsalted butter, melted
    1/3 cup granulated sugar*
    1/3 cup light brown sugar
    7 Tbs unsweetened cocoa powder
    1/3 cup plain yogurt (lowfat is fine)
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips (I like Ghirardelli 60%)

    *If not using Splenda, use 2/3 cup granulated sugar instead. Nutrition calculation is for the Splenda version.


Makes 18-20 (3") cookies.

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.

2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

3. In medium bowl, combine melted butter and granulated sugar. Sift in the cocoa powder and mix well. Add the yogurt and vanilla and stir until thoroughly mixed.

4. Add the dry flour mixture to wet ingredients, and stir just to combine. Avoid overmixing. Fold in chocolate chips.

5. (The dough is somewhat sticky, so it helps to moisten and rinse the spoon with water every so often to minimize sticking when forming cookies). Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto baking sheet, about 2" apart. If using Splenda, moisten back of spoon and gently press down each ball to flatten the top slightly (not necessary if using all granulated sugar). You should be able to fit about 8 or 9 cookies on the baking sheet.

6. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until cookies look slightly crackled on top. Slide parchment/foil onto a wire rack. After 10 minutes, place the cookies directly onto rack to cool completely.

***These are pretty chocolatey even without the chocolate chips, if you wish to minimize the calories. On the flipside, replacing a 1/4 cup of the chocolate chips with chopped toasted walnuts makes these even better.

Store in a large ziploc bag with a paper towel inside and these will stay fresh and chewy at room temp for up to a week.***
