I used pork too. We really enjoyed this. I think next time I will cut the chicken into bite size and see how that works. - 3/13/08

I don't like how the recipe claims half a chicken breast is a "serving". I put in considerably less ginger and served it with salad. "Orange chicken" at a Chinese buffet is basically orange jello on chicken - of course this isn't going to be like that! This, however, is very easy to make and tasty. - 7/3/10

I made this last night. It was good, although I agree with the others that maybe the name should be altered a bit. It doesn't really taste like the orange chicken you're used to. But it was still good. - 4/17/08

I really liked this. It's more like a pulled pork bbq thing than the asian orange chicken, but it's very good served on rice. My whole family liked it. - 2/16/08

  • I try a Spark recipe nearly every day-this is the first time I've given a 5 star. Even hubby said this was delicious! Didn't have fresh ginger, so used 1 tsp dry. Had only regular soy sauce & orange marmalade, so sodium & calories higher. Don't like buying something when have it all ready on hand. - 4/26/17

  • I didn't use the recipe as written. I used the comments to make the following edits & it was really really good! I used real orange marmalade & Frank's sweet chili sauce instead of bbq. I skipped the flour & added a cornstarch slurry at the end. It was super good!

  • This wasn't for us. I was really kinda hoping it would taste similar to traditional orange chicken from an Asian restaurant I think it was the barbecue sauce that did it without the barbecue sauce it would have been fine - 8/14/16

  • I made this but I substituted the orange marmalade for Polynesian sauce, sweet and sour sauce, a teaspoon of ginger dressing along with pepper jelly. Additionally, I only added a tablespoon of BBQ Sauce b/c I didn't like the way it changed the taste. Flour not good. Wasn't breaded & dried out sauce - 7/8/16

  • This is a nice change from the usual way I make my chicken, but I left out the bar-b-que sauce, to me it didn't work with the ginger, soy and marmalade. it was delicious and enjoyed by my family. - 3/19/16

very good. not like restaurant orange chicken, but better in some ways. i'll tweak it a little next time. but my complaint is that half a chicken breast isn't a real serving. at least not if you're a gal with a healthy appetite like mine. i wish this site would be a little more realistic. - 3/19/16

  • Didn't have enough time to do the crockpot so I used my broaster (pressure cooker like pan, with pressure cap.). I used up some marmalade that I had, and added a cup of tropical fruits, blended in with some arrowroot powder for thickening. Was good enough my teenaged son loved it, fruit and all! - 8/20/15

  • This was excellent! My family loved it. Super tender and flavorful. On first taste the bbq sauce overwhelmed the dish, so I added more marmalade and left the crock-pot on warm for another hour. Much better. Next time I will use a full cup of marmalade. - 6/10/14

  • Definitely more ginger (for my palate) and a sweeter bbq suace, but it was amazing! I'm always looking for a way to add citrus-y flavours to my dish and this was one of them. Do mind the cooking time, though. You might get away with dark meat, but this amount of time and white meat is no good. - 5/17/14

  • I was really excited about this recipe, but it didnt taste anything like orange chicken. It had very little flavor (I followed the directions exactly) and it was more a weird BBQ flavor than anything. I'll try it one more time and maybe tweek the ingredients. - 5/4/11

I love orange flavored everything, even after reading the reviews I knew it wouldn't be like the orange chix I'm used to, but my husband, my kids, and I all disliked this...I don't know if it was the ginger, or what, but something was waaay off. Want to add that I only used 1/2 Tbsp. of the ginger.. - 7/16/08

  • I was so excited about this recipe, but it was more like a sweet BBQ sauce that might be OK grilled but I was expecting an Asian type of meal and served it on brown rice. My husband and I both agree that it was not the right way to categorize or serve this chicken. Not good at all. - 2/4/08
