Introduction
There are lot of variations of dal in India but its a staple in Indian household. Almost everyday they eat some kind of dal. For this dal I either use moong or masoor dal. Ingredients

Lentils, 1 cup
Onions, raw, .5 cup, chopped
Garlic, 3 cloves minced
*Cumin seed, 1 tsp
*Coriander seed, 1 tbsp finely crushed
Caynne pepper minced
*Canola Oil, 1 tbsp
Directions
Wash , rince and boil the lentils with 2 cups of water. It will take about 30 to 45 minutes. You may need to add more water as lentils cook they tend to thicken and add salt to taste.
Heat oil in a small pan and add cumin seeds. When they start to pop add chopped garlic and onion. Stir fry until it starts to brown then add turmeric , coriander and pepper powder. Mix well and pour over cooked lentils. Mix it well balance the salt. Consistency should be like tomato soup. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve over rice.
