This is my mom's home recipe with pureed carrots and spinach added. This is my mom's home recipe with pureed carrots and spinach added.
Number of Servings: 10


    2 pounds of ground meat (I used 1 lb of ground beef and 1 lb of ground turkey)
    .75 cup chopped frozen onion
    salt and pepper meat to taste
    1 tsp. minced garlic
    2 small cans diced tomatoes
    1 large can whole, peeled tomatoes
    1 cup carrots (pureed)
    1 cup spinach (pureed)
    3 tsp. salt
    1 T. sugar
    1 T. Chili powder
    2 T. parsley flakes
    1 tsp. basil
    4 bay leaves


Brown meat in large pan. Add a little salt and pepper, garlic and onions while browning. When no longer pink, drain grease. Put can of whole tomatoes in blender and blend together. Add to sauce with diced tomatoes. Puree spinach and carrots in blender - adding a little water to help puree better. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. After the chili boils, turn heat down to simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally. Serve alone or with noodles and shredded cheese.
