    1 lb mussels
    2 lbs firm fresh fish
    1/3 c olive oil
    1 1/2 Tbsp chopped garlic
    3/4 c chopped onion
    5 Roma tomatoes or 1 c canned Italian tomatoes
    1 tsp fennel seed
    Pinch saffron
    1 Tbsp, plus 1/2 tsp kosher salt
    1 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
    2 Tbsp salted butter
    2 1/2 c boiling water
    1 8oz bottle clam juice
    1 lb bay scallops
    1 lb shrimp


Wash and scrub mussels in cold water. Bring 2 cups water to a boil in large pot. Add mussels and cover the pot. Steam for 6 to 8 minutes or until the mussels open. Discard any unopened mussels. Remove from the heat and set aside. (If using frozen mussels, add at the end of the recipe after boling them in the bag. Add 2 cups of fish stock in place of mussel water.)
Cut fish into 1 inch pieces. Heat oil in pot and add garlic, onions, tomatoes, fennel, saffron, salt and pepper. Add muscle broth to the pot and 2 Tbsp of butter. Add boiling water and clam juice. Bring to a rolling boil. Add clams, and scallops and continue to cook , about 6 to 8 minutes. Add the mussels and shrimp and boil for an additional 5 minutes.
Serve in large bowls. You might want to serve it on French bread.
