Mom's Favorite Split Pea with Ham Soup Mom's Favorite Split Pea with Ham Soup
Number of Servings: 8


    7 cups water
    1 package (16 oz) split peas (green or yellow)
    1 tsp Vegetable oil
    1 tsp salt
    1 cup celery, chopped
    1 cup chopped onion (can sauté' 1st in oil if desired)
    2 cups carrots, peeled, chopped
    2 cups already cooked ham
    1 cup peeled potatoes
    1 tsp garlic powder or minced garlic
    Salt/Pepper to taste


This is a very traditional, simple recipe. Hearty not heavy.


-Bring peas, oil and salt to a boil in water
-Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer up to two hours to soften beans
-Add remaining ingredients, stirring occasionally, until vegetables/potatoes are soft (approx. 30 minutes)
Season to taste
Serve...and enjoy!
