This is the 1 pound bread machine version of an old family recipe. This is the 1 pound bread machine version of an old family recipe.

    0.25 c vegetable oil
    1c. water
    2.25c flour (white or wheat or combo)
    1 tbsp sugar
    0.5 tbsp salt
    1 tbsp gluten (optional)
    1.5 tsp yeast (2 tsp if wheat flour)


I have substituted for all wheat flour, honey for sugar, bran for part of the flour, and mixed in cheeses, fruits, and spices at the appropriate cycle. This is a very forgiving and versatile basic bread. Makes great toast.


Combine liquids then solids, adding yeast last to a "well" in the flour in bread machine pan. Add water or flour during mixing cycles as needed. Adjust crust settings as desired. Makes a 1 pound loaf.
