Introduction
For the record, I HATE the canned sloppy joe stuff you find at the grocery store. My mom always made a version of this recipe when she was running a daycare out of our home. I have "tweeked" it a little to suit the tastes of my husband and I, and I encourage anyone who tries this recipe to do the same! I don't add as much brown sugar as my mom did since I felt that the ketchup and chili sauce added enough sweetness. However, I do add more apple cider vinegar than my mom because I like the tanginess of it. For the record, I HATE the canned sloppy joe stuff you find at the grocery store. Ingredients
-
8 Tablespoons ketchup
8 teaspoons yellow mustard
4 Tablespoons chili sauce
2 teaspoons light brown sugar
2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
Directions
Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl. This can be done ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. Brown your ground meatwith finely chopped onions, peppers, or any other veggies you might want to add. (I suggest chopping them up VERY fine if you want to "hide" them from the kiddos!) Drain any fat off of the browned meat. Add the sloppy joe sauce and simmer until the mixture reaches the consistency you desire. Enjoy!
