Ingredients

1&1/2 cups of whole wheat flour
1&1/2 cups of quick oats
1/2 cup of light brown sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp.nutmeg
3/4 cup Becel olive oil margarine
1&1/2 to 2 cups whole dried dates
1/4 cup liquid honey
1/2 cup hot water
1 tsp. pure vanilla
Directions
Cook dates, honey, vanilla & water over medium heat stirring frequently to break up the dates until thick & mushy, for about 10-15 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly while making crumb base & topping.
Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
Add margarine and mix with hands & fingers until very crumbley & no large chunks of margarine are left.
Press 3/4 of the crumb mixture into a 9" x 9" square pan. Top with the date mixture, pressing down evenly then top loosley with the rest of the crumb topping.
Bake in 350 degree oven, for 20 minutes.cool for 1/2 hour before cutting
Cut into 16 2" x 2" squares
