A basic dough for Chinese style steam buns A basic dough for Chinese style steam buns
Number of Servings: 16


    Flour 2 cups
    Baking Powder 1 tsps or 10 gs
    Sugar, 50 grams
    Vegetable Oil, 1 tbsp
    Active Dry Yeast, 7 gram(s) 1 packet
    lukewarm Water, 1 cup

    You can add salt, but I don't.


I use a bread maker for this, however, if you don't have one or want to make it by hand.

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, yeast in to bowl. make a well in the center and add your oil and water.

Mix until it forms a ball and kneed for 10 to 15 minutes until it is smooth. place in a bowl and cover the bowl with cling film, place in a warm area and let raise for 45 minutes to 1 hour. if you can stick your finger in the dough and leave a hole its ready to kneed again.

at this point after kneading again, cut into 16 even portions and roll in to balls ready to be rolled out and filled, before steaming.
