    16 cups of Swanson's chicken broth
    8 cups of Swanson's beef broth
    1 16 oz package dried split peas
    1 cup chopped onions
    2 cups chopped carrots
    1/4 cup low sodium Tamari
    3 or 4 bay leaves
    1 TBSP minced garlic
    2 tsp marjoram
    1 16 to 18 oz Wellshire uncured ham shank


For a richer flavor you can add a 10 oz package of portobella mushrooms in with the onions when browning.


Rinse the dry peas in a strainer. Cover with warm water in a microwaveable bowl and pre cook the peas until starting to swell an soften. Brown the onions till tender in a large soup pot, then add the broth, drained peas, carrots, tamari, ham shank, garlic, bay leaves, marjoram. Bring to a gentle boil, then turn down an let simmer stiring often.
