    1/2 cup unsalted butter OR unsalted sunflower margarine, softened.
    1 cup white sugar
    2 eggs
    1 1/4 cup warm applesauce
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    1 tsp baking soda
    3/4 tsp salt
    1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
    3/4 tsp cloves
    2 apples, diced
    1 cup raisins (optional)
    1 cup chopped pecans (optional)


I also like to lay thinly sliced apple on the top and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture.
I have submitted the recipe without the raisins or pecans added into the recipe.


Mix the butter with the sugar and eggs. Blend on low with an electric mixer. Slowly blend in applesauce. Sift all the dry ingredients together with the spices and add the apples (and raisins and nuts). Stir this into the butter mixture. Pour batter into a greased 9 x 13" cake pan.
