A wonderful hearty winter warm soup for all that leftover ham. A wonderful hearty winter warm soup for all that leftover ham.
Number of Servings: 12

    Beans, black, .5 cup dry
    Beans, pinto, .5 cup dry
Beans, red kidney, .5 cup dry
Barley, pearled, cooked, 1 cup dry
    Lentils, .5 cup dry
    Split Peas, .5 cup dry
    Onions, raw, 1 cup, chopped
    Bacon, 12 medium slices, cooked
Ham, Kirkland smoked honey ham, 12 oz
    Stewed Tomatoes, 2 cup
    *Potato, raw, 2 cup diced
Peppers, sweet, red, raw, sliced, .5 cup
    Celery, raw, 1 cup, diced
    Water, tap, 12 cups
    Milk, 1%, 1 cup

Wonderful served with crusty rolls. It's a meal in itself! Takes a long time for the beans to soften but well worth the effort!

Boil beans, barley lentils and split peas in 4 quarts of water, let sit for 60 minutes, drain and rinse. re-add beans to pot with 12 cups of water. Add ham bone, and sauteed onions and chopped bacon to pot, bring to boil again on high and simmer for another 60 minutes. Remove ham bone, add chopped ham, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and celery, add seasoning to taste ( I use a bit of garlic powder and black pepper). Simmer on low heat until the beans and potatoes are done and chowder has thickened. 1/2 hour before serving add 1 c milk. Heat and serve.

Serving Size: Makes 12 - 2 cup servings
