Introduction

This is a classic, cooling side dish which you may enjoy with rice. The mild seasoning, allows you to fully taste the texture and flavours in the silken tofu. You can add any topping which you want, or any sauce which you like. This is a classic, cooling side dish which you may enjoy with rice. Ingredients

The first list will enlist, all the traditional ingredients of the Hiyayyako.

    1 Block ( 125 g) Silken Tofu
    1 tsp Chopped Green Chives
    1 tsp Grated Ginger
    1tbsp Chinese Soy Sauce

    Some more topping ideas:
    Corn
    Tomato
    Ebi
    Toasted Sesame Seeds
    Shisho
    Bonito Flakes
    Ham
    Nori
    Cucumbers
    Wakame
    Plum Paste

Really, anything can go as the topping, so be creative.
My favourite are: Nori flakes, Toasted Ebi, Toasted Sesame Seeds.

As for the sauce you can choose:
    Soy Sauce
    Ponzu
    Yuzu
    Wasabi
    Again, anything goes.

Tips

As this dish relies on only a few mild seasonings, there really isn't any "cover up" for the taste of the tofu. Therefore you should always carefully select your tofu. This dish is also best served cold. So assemble the ingredients, before cooling the Hiyayyako in your refrigerator.

Directions

1) Prepare the Ingredients:
- Drain and slice the tofu into desired pieces.
- Chop the green onion.
- Grate the Ginger, into a paste.
2) Assemble all the ingredients into a serving dish.
3) Your dish is now ready to enjoy.
