    16 oz dried split peas, picked over, rinsed and drained
    3 carrots, peeled thinly sliced
    3 celery stalks, diced
    3 oz canadian bacon
    4 C water
    1 C low sodium chicken broth
    1 tsp salt


Combine all ingredients into crock pot, cover and cook on high until vegetables and peas are tender, about 5 hrs. (10 - 12 hrs on low)

  • Used Turkey ham and low sodium chicken broth. Put a few dry cancho chilis in for a little more kick. Only needed about 4 1/2 hours on high in the crock pot. If leaving to cook all day(like at work) would leave it on low. good taste, froze well. - 9/16/09

  • I added chicken bouilion, garlic, onion powder, cumin, white pepper, and a couple dashes tabasco. After all this I thought it was really quite tasty. It didn't need 5 hours on high. Versatile recipe at any rate. Thank you~ - 4/16/08

  • i have made something similar but due to sodium issues left out the canadian bacon(and i dont like it anyway lol) it still tasted wonderfull! - 3/28/08
