Ingredients

    6 cups ham broth
    1 1/2 cups rutabaga, diced
    1 1/2 cups carrot, diced
    3/4 cup parsnip, diced
    1 1/2 cup potato, diced
    1 cup onion, chopped
    1 cup celery, sliced
    1 cup mushrooms, sliced
    2 cups kale, chopped
    1 pound diced meat from smoked picnic shoulder
    3 cups cabbage (steam or boil) separately

Directions

Simmer Picnic ham in 12 cups water for 90 minutes. Remove and let cool. Trim fat and remove bone. Use half the broth and dice 1 pound of meat and retain the remainder for another use. Set aside meat and bring broth to a simmer. Add diced vegetables starting with hardest and finishing with kale. Add meat (cooking until hot) and serve over cabbage steamed separately.
