    1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
    2 oz. semisweet dark chocolate, chopped
    3/4 cup sugar
    1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    3 eggs
    1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional, but included in calorie count)


Preheat oven to 350*F

Melt butter and chocolate together in a pan set over low heat. Stir in the sugar, cocoa, and vanilla and remove from heat. Add the eggs, flour, baking powder and salt. Whisk until smooth. Stir in walnuts, if using.
Pour the batter into an 8X8 baking pan coated with baking spray. Spread the batter out into an even layer. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out nearly clean. (if you like your brownies less fudgy, bake a few extra minutes, until the toothpick comes out perfectly clean.)
