    1/2 cup brown lentils
    1/2 cup rice (long or short grain as you [prefer)
    salt and pepper to taste
    1 tsp ground cumin
    1 small onion- sliced
    2 tsp olive oil


You may need to sink the rice in hot water before cooking (according to its type)


put the lentils and water in a pot over heat and let it boil until the lentils are almost done
drain the lentils from water but keep the water aside to use again
mix the lentils and rice together and season with cumin, salt and pepper
cover with water (1 inch above the rice and lentls mix) and let it cook until the water is gone and rice is well done
heat the olive oil in antoher pan, add the onions slices, and keep stirring every minute or two until the onions are golden
serve the mojadarah in a plate and garnish with golden onion slices

  • Ate this for lunch yesterday. So delicious! Only change I made was to use chicken broth instead of water to cook the lentils and rice. - 4/3/13
