Introduction

This is very easy and quick to make and has very good flavor. You can reduce the sodium by using reduced or salt free tomatoes and tomato sauce. This is very easy and quick to make and has very good flavor. You can reduce the sodium by using reduced or salt free tomatoes and tomato sauce.

Ingredients

    1 pound ground pork
    1 cup chopped onion
    2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
    1 can (16 ounces) tomatoes, cut up
    1 can (16 ounces) butter beans or lima beans, drained
    1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
    2-4 ounce cans green chili peppers, rinsed, seeded and chopped
    1 tablespoon chili powder
    1/2 teaspoon sugar
    1/2 teaspoon dried basil, crushed
    1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    1/8 teaspoon ground red cayenne pepper

Directions

In a large skillet or a saucepan cook pork, onion, and garlic till meat is brown and onion is tender, drain off fat. Stir in undrained tomatoes, drained butter beans or lima beans, tomato sauce, chopped chili peppers, chili powder, sugar, basil, allspice, black pepper and red pepper. Bring mixture to boiling. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. If desired, serve with topping suggested below.
Suggested Toppings: crushed crackers, shredded cheese, chopped carrot, sour cream, shredded lettuce, chopped onion, alfalfa sprouts and chopped fresh tomato.
