    8 ounces lean top sirloin, thinly sliced into 1" strips
    2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
    1 teasoon Chinese 5-spice powder
    3 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
    1 teaspoon grated ginger root
    2 tablespoons extra virgin oiive oil
    2 cups chopped fresh broccoli
    1 medium onion (2-inch diameter)
    1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
    1/4 cup red wine
    1/2 cup water, divided.
    1 teaspoon corn starch


Place sirloin strips in a shallow bowl. Add teriyaki sauce, ground ginger root, minced garlic and 5-spice powder. Toss to blend thoroughly and set aside.

Chop broccoli, onion and red bell pepper and set aside.

Heat olive oil in a deep skillet or wok over high heat until a drop of water sizzles when dropped into the pan. Add beef mixture, including marinade, and stir fry until beef is browned on all sides, about 4 minutses. .Push beef to one side of pan and add chopped vegetables. Stir fry, gradually blending vegetables and beef.. Pour red wine evenly over the mixture and stir to distribute. Add 1/4 cup of water and stir until beef juices color the broth.

Mix 1 teaspoon with remaining 1/4 cup of water until smooth and well-blended. Move beef and vegetables to one side of the pan. Drizzle cornstarch mixture into the sauce, stirring constantly until sauce thickens slightly. Stir beef and vegetables back into the sauce.

Serve with steamed brown rice or wild rice.

Makes 2 very generous servings.
