Ingredients
-
Brownies:
1-1/2 c. sugar
1 c. sour cream
1/2 c. butter, softened
2 eggs
1-3/4 c ripe, mashed bananas
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped walnuts (optional)
Caramel Frosting:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
2 tsp. vanilla
3-4 cups sifted powdered sugar
Directions
Brownies:
1. Heat oven to 375F. Grease and flour 15x10-inch jelly roll pan. For the bars, in a large bowl, beat together sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs until creamy. Blend in bananas and vanilla extract. Add flour, baking soda, salt, and blend for 1 minute. Stir in walnuts.
2. Spread batter evenly into pan. Bake 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Caramel Frosting (start when brownies are almost done):
Makes 2 cups. In large, heavy saucepan, melt butter over low heat until it starts to brown, about 3-4 minutes. Watch it carefully as the butter can burn quickly.
When butter is light golden brown, add brown sugar. Stir frequently until thickened; may not completely mix. Remove from heat and add milk. Beat with wire whisk until smooth. Add vanilla and beat again. Add enough powdered sugar until pourable spreading consistency. Pour frosting over slightly cooled brownies and spread to cover. Let cool and serve.
