I could not trust myself with a whole batch so.....using the nutrition labels on the products, I came up with this 1 serving recipe and fewer calories: 2T raisins, 54 calories; 1/4 C Cheerios, 25 cal; 1/2 oz. mixed nuts, 85 cal.; 1 T Hershey's semi sweet chocolate pieces, 70 calories; 234 calories. - 2/10/10

I made up a batch similar to this to take on the train with me as a good snack or even a meal substitute if necessary; it had fruit and protein. I just had to be careful about portions (it is easy to eat too much in one sitting). I am concerned that the dried fruits have so much sugar added. - 9/11/08

Good ideas. I made this last night, using almonds, Corn Chex, dried apricots (cut into quarters), and Peanut Butter M&Ms. By today, the Chex were stale from the moisture in the apricots, and the almonds nearly were, too. I may not cut the apricots up in the future I like all the different ideas! - 4/10/09

I don't know why this is so high in calories, except maybe for the dried fruit (which has a LOT of sugar). I make up my own snack mix ...3 cups of original Chex mix w/ 3 cups of Joe's O's (cheerios equivalent from Trader Joe's) w/ 3 cups of puffed brown rice cereal. Mix it up in a large ziploc. - 8/22/09

Very close to the recipe I use now for trail mix - except I haven't used cereal yet - just dried fruit, nuts, seeds and sometimes mini M&M's. We take it to the cross country mountain bike races that my son does (and he hopes I will be doing soon as well) - great snack for those active atheletes !! - 2/26/10

Great idea! The good news is that the nutritional info is for 3 servings, not 1. If you look at the breakdown per ingredient, there's 3/4 cup of stuff (1/4 C. raisins, 1/4 C. cereal, 1/8 C. sunflower seeds, 1/8 C. soybeans.) Now I can relax & enjoy this healthy treat with a little less guilt! - 11/11/09

Well, thinking about it, it really depends on which ingredients you put in it, and there are tons of combos, so it's really difficult to get the calorie amount accurate when you have all those different options. I guess just pick and choose the lower cal options and you can get less than 340. - 9/25/08

Many dried fruits add no sugar. Others add no sulfur to preserve color either. For best nutritional value, choose dried fruit that is only fruit. Brazil nuts and almonds are supposed to be healthier than most other nuts. Read cereal labels for added sugar also. There are a few good choices. - 11/11/09

Ok a snack that's 346 calories? That's like an entire mel for me, and sometimes that's more than the meals I eat. I'm sorry that's just too many calories for me to use on a snack. It sounds delicious-and I bet it tastes great! However ,I prefer to stick with m 50 calorie fiber one yogurt snacks. - 5/12/10
