This is a healthy and easy version of the gyro. Easy to make and tastes awesome! This is a healthy and easy version of the gyro. Easy to make and tastes awesome!
Number of Servings: 4

1 cup non fat plain Greek yogurt
    1 medium cucumber, finely diced
    1/4 cup finely diced onion
    1 tbsp. diced dill
    Salt to taste
    Pepper to taste
    1-2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb lean ground turkey (bison, venison, chicken will work as well)
    1 tbsp. diced oregano leaves
    1 tbsp. onion powder
    1 tbsp. garlic powder
    1/2 tsp fine sea salt
    1/2 tsp ground pepper
1 medium large ripe tomato, diced
    1/2 cup diced onion
    4 whole wheat pita breads
(shredded lettuce or feta cheese if desired - not included in calorie determination)

Reduce salt if necessary. Use lettuce, feta cheese or other items to taste. Makes a great simple lunch or dinner. You might want to make the sauce in a food processor or blender to make it more smooth but I used knife skills to dice extremely fine. Enjoy!

In a medium mixing bowl combine the first 7 ingredients, then refrigerate.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine turkey and spices. Form into 4 equal patties. Grill or broil until cooked to medium, about 15 minutes. Cool and slice patties. Cut pitas in half, open and fill with turkey patty slices, cucumber sauce, tomatoes and onion to your taste.

I served with diced fresh pears and diced strawberries with lowfat peach yogurt on the side for dipping. Pears, strawberries and peach yogurt was not included in these calorie totals.
