    2 cups dried navy beans
    14 cups tap water
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 clove garlic
    2 ham bones
    2 1/2 cups chopped potatoes
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper

    This recipe calls for 2 teaspoons of salt. I never add salt. So Calorie count does not have the added to it.


I have had this recipe for so long I cannot remember where I got it.


Heat beans and water to boiling Dutch oven. Boiled uncovered 2 minutes remove form heat. Cover and let stand 1 hour. add ham bones. Heat to boiling: reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer about 2 hours or until beans are tender. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer 1 hour. Remove ham bones; remove the ham from bones. Trim excess fat from ham, cut the ham into 1/2 inch pieces. Stir ham into soup.
