Ingredients

    1/-cup finely chopped onion
    1-tsp spice island minced garlic(bottled kind)
    1/2-cupe finely diced celery
    2-lbs ground extra lean ground beef(96% lean)
    2-tbsp extra virgin olive oil
    2-28 oz.cans tomatoe puree
    4-6 oz. cans tomatoe paste
    1/2-tsp nutmeg
    2-tsp sugar
    1-tbsp salt
    2-whole bay leaves
    1-tsp ground oregano
    1/4-tsp black pepper
    1/2-cup fresh ground Pecorino romano cheese
    2-cans sliced mushroom pieces(8 oz size)
    1-tsp baking soda


Directions

Saute onion,garlic and celery in olive oil for five minutes or until soft and translucent.In a large pot brown ground beef until no longer pink.Drain and rinse excess fat off.Transfer to a large crock pot.Add onion mixture to the crock pot along with the rest of the ingredients except for the baking soda and mushrooms.Baking soda is to be added only if you are cooking the fast way (1 hour on high)The baking soda will neutralize the acid in the tomato sauce.At this point you need to cook on low for four hours if you are cooking the slow way.The last fifteen minutes add the canned mushrooms.You will not be disappointing in the flavor!!!!!
